PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. It is a system that recognizes the positive behavior of our students and aims to promote Social
Emotional Learning while enhancing the safety of our students throughout the school
day. The students at P.S. / M.S. 71 are learning about school-wide behavioral
expectations throughout the school year and are now being recognized through our new PBIS system.
The acronym P.A.W.S. is the format that was decided to present these expectations. The letters in the acronym stand for:
- Positive Attitude
- Act Safely
- Work Together
- Show Respect
These expectations have been agreed upon by the staff as an effective way to be proactive in managing behaviors. Throughout the school year, we will recognize and reward the students who are following the PBIS expectations.
